Get to know the General Managers at Timbers’ properties throughout the globe! We sat down with David Kalnas, the General Manager of Timbers Jupiter. He’s been with the team for eight years and shared some great insights. Read more below:
What do you like most about working at Timbers?
I work with an amazing team who are not only my co-workers, but also my friends. Timbers Resorts has afforded my family and I opportunities that would have been out of reach elsewhere.
What do you enjoy most about living around Jupiter?
Jupiter and the Treasure Coast are a wonderful area to live with great weather, beaches, and community events. While Jupiter has that small town feel we are close to large cities which host sporting events and other various family attractions.
What advice would you give to someone looking to join the Timbers team?
Look at what Timbers is compared to other companies that offer our array of services. Timbers is a smaller than your typical hospitality company and therefore you are more likely to be noticed and have an opportunity to grow. At Timbers, opportunities abound!
What motivates you to go to work each day?
I enjoy what I do and where I work. I am incredibly privileged to have the opportunity to work at such a wonderful property and be around friends every day.
Is there a local favorite spot that you always recommend to Owners or guests?
Jupiter is great for two things. We are home to some of the best beaches in all of Florida and wonderful local fresh caught seafood. I love the local catch and there are many great local places such as Pinders and Hobe Sound Produce (a little north of Jupiter) where you can pick up fresh caught local fish to prepare at home.
Tell us about a memorable special moment that happened at Timbers Jupiter.
Over Thanksgiving we had a family from Kauai visit us. Unfortunately, the tennis courts on property were undergoing re-surfacing during this time. The owner reached out after reading the card I place in every home. We ended up finding a location at North Palm Beach Country club where they could play. It was nothing out of the ordinary for us, however it was a major event for them.
We learned that it was important for this owner to have his daughter play tennis with his 88 year old mother for the first time. The daughter had been taking tennis lessons and made the high school team. The owners 88 year old mother was an avid tennis player and had not seen her granddaughter in over two years as a result of the pandemic, nor was she aware she took up tennis. For her to see her granddaughter for the first time in years and be able to play the sport she loved had an huge impact on this family.
The family went out of their way to share how important and meaningful our effort was in making their visit memorable.
What is a fun fact that people are surprised to learn about you?
I am an avid fantasy sports player and make some amazing beef jerky?
